Finesse Trout II

This line casts very nice especially on slower action rods, very accurate and it lands gently if you want to up your game in the mountains get this line. I have also had no problems with the durability of this product or excessive line memory, thank you.

I do fly fishing trips and salmon river trips and cortlands fly line has not ever let me down.

I found my way to this line by purchasing a 2 wt 8' 6" medium-fast rod suggesting a 93 gr 2 wt line. This line is 90 gr. Yesterday was my 3rd time out with the rod and line. I like the combination. If I cast gently the line floats off the rod to its intended target. It's fun, especially on an overcast day with no one else around. It mends easily. I waded along a rock ridge to a spot 20' across from a beaver lodge, drifting a soft hackle below it to a few fish that broke the surface occasionally. I got a bump from a large fish that left a swirl. Minutes later I hooked and netted a 9" brown. I made another cast, and fed out line (maybe 60') to help reach the area of a larger fish. I stripped it in, and with maybe 20' remaining, I raised the tip to find a larger fish on. It bent the rod a bit, but I netted and released the 16" brown. Then the river shut off. I talked with four others who asked, "Have you even seen a fish or bug today?" I admitted to these two browns. I attribute my success to this line, and its smooth working with my the rod. It's pretty sweet.

Flows very well out of my 2wt stick. Very accurate hitting right pockets and great for roll casting!

Well. I put together a new setup. Wanted all USA made. Winston rod, ross reel. Cortland Line. I like that concept. Cortland is not too far from where I live. So supporting them feels great. Now. I fish a bunch of different lines from other manufacturers. Some I like, some not as much. I do like the classic Cortland 444, this finesse trout line. To me, if you had more people blind test these lines, they would impress more anglers than you would expect. I think they're that good. As my other lines wear out, I plan to switch them out with cortland lines.

Lands super soft on the water and casts like a dream

Long taper provides very nice presentation and the line is a good "sky color", blending with the sky and remaining less visible to the trout. I fish slow, clear water for trophy trout with classic bamboo rods and I chose the half size heavy 5 to suit a Leonard 50 DF-6 I just acquired. Smoothness and suppleness are good with this line and, though I am certain you did not design it for bamboo, it performs very well.
Cortland was the first company to offer half size lines (3.5, 4, 4.5, 5, etc, and I thought that a great idea. Casting styles vary and I like being able to tailor a line to get the best out of a particular bamboo rod.

I started fishing the Finesse Trout ll on my 6 wt Winston Air 2 last summer. I find it casts really well whether I’m throwing a size 6 chubby Chernobyl or a size 18 Caddis or PMD dry. I can get good distance when necessary and good control at all distances. Matches really well with this rod.

Throws with ease and it really reaches out when I need it to but the best thing about this line is how accurate it is, it really is awesome and for me the best line I've ever used. Well worth the money spent.

This line offers great control and really shoots out the guides. Love all their products and this line does nothing but reinforce that belief. Great job as always

Finesse trout 2 is an amazing line. It is very light on the water allowing great presentations. It also has helped with accuracy.

Have been using the line about a month now. Glides incredibly smoothly while casting and let's me make very accurate casts.

Well I’ve been a satisfied Cortland user for a long time, but I’m not to pleased with this line. I treated it with Loon line speed before use and after a few casts the line would not stay afloat. It performed more like a sinking tip line rather floating finesse. Is there some special line treatment required?

I paired this line with a 9 foot 4 weight Thomas and Thomas Vector. There was only one trout jumping in the pool I decided to fish and try the line out. Was a moderate distance of about 40 feet. The fly landed exactly where I was looking on the first cast. The trout swiped at my fly and I missed him. Only took one cast. Can’t wait to fish with it more and put it to the test. Seemed to load the rod without any extra effort, and definitely noticed great loop stability. The line also felt very slick or slippery you might say. Which is great. Floated high and was easy to pick up
Off the water as well. I’ve tried many lines on that rod. 444dt, 444 rocket taper, and three different rio lines. Three from them because they don’t hold up very long. The 444 dt amazed me at how much I could carry in the air, but the rocket taper was much easier to use giving me some “shoot ability”. Besides the rios not lasting very long, 2 of them I had problems with the loops collapsing at any kind of distance. The rod liked the one that was a half size heavier, so that’s what helped me decide on the finesse trout. Was a toss up between it and the 444 modern trout. The tie breaker was the blue color if I’m being honest. It matches my rod blank and reel very nicely.

I've tried this out several times. Last week in fact. My rods just don't perform well with it. I've used Cortland lines for decades but this one does not work for me. Maybe I need a faster rod? I did get it on sale and it's stiffer than I care for. Maybe it's just too old? I'm an advanced caster. I'm still using several 444 lines. Is it supposed to be stiffer?

I am not a dry or, die guy. I am a fly fisherman, having the right set up when it counts is OK with me. In contrast to having one system for everything. I like specialized equipment. Dude! This finesse line is specialized. It cast accuracy and handles beautifully on my 4 wt.

From the first practice cast this line felt powerful and great.

Bought it for small stream/river to use on my TFO signatures II 2w 6'. With a 7.5 feet custom leader I must say I'm impressed. Great accuracy and paired with the good leader, you can drop your dries with ease.

Casts well, easy to mend, sinks at a manageable rate.
