FAQ

Cleaning your fly line is very important especially when fishing saltwater. Simply pull line off your reel into a clean bucket or tub of freshwater. Put roughly 1oz or more of Cortland’s Line Cleaner solution onto a clean rag or towel. Firmly squeeze the towel with Pro Line Cleaner around the line and slowly pull line through the towel. You should be able to see dirt or discolored streaks on the towel when finished.

Clear Camo Line

This is my go too line for finicky striped bass and false albacore when they are a foot or two under the surface or feeding on top in bright sunshine during the cooler Nader 80 degree water months. I also like it for making shooting heads when they go on sale. Cortland’s multifiliment hollow waxed running lines are fabulous! Spliceable! Very few tangles out of a stripping basket and longer than average casts to fish generally out of reach. Shooting heads are nothing new and hope Cortland makes some soon! One back cast and Boooom! Out it goes!

Cortland Camo Intermediate

This line is the bomb to cast (but sometimes there's a bit of a tangle with its memory). I used this as a "washing line" one morning, that was fun and the line worked perfectly. It's a great line*. If this camo intermediate lasts like all the other Cortland lines I have, the line will be around a long time and used frequently.

I added a centimeter of hot orange thread, coated with Knot Sense, about ten feet from the leader connection, as a "hang marker". I know this isn't for everyone but it helps me keep the line out of the rod tip which helps casting with a long leader.

*Is this line still in production? It's hard to find.

Clear Camo Intermediate Fly Line for Stealth Fishing

For anglers who demand discretion beneath the surface, Cortland’s Clear Camo Intermediate Fly Line delivers a rare blend of stealth, finesse, and controlled sink rate. Built on decades of research and real-world angling scenarios, this line is engineered specifically for clear lakes, pressured fisheries, and finicky fish that spook at the sight of conventional lines. The monofilament core paired with a translucent camo finish allows it to melt into the aquatic environment—an invaluable feature for fly fishers pursuing ultra-selective trout, bass, or carp in crystal-clear waters where subtle presentations are the difference between a take and a refusal.

What makes this line truly exceptional is its 1.5–2 inches per second sink rate. This slow intermediate pace enables anglers to confidently cover the water column with streamers, nymphs, or small baitfish patterns without diving too deep too quickly. It allows you to explore shallow flats, contour drops, and submerged vegetation with precision. The result is natural presentation, extended time in the strike zone, and greater control during the retrieve—even in complex stillwater environments or tidal inlets. Whether you're stripping leeches along a weed edge or crawling a baitfish pattern across the bottom, this line gives you the stealth and control needed to outsmart wary predators.

Balanced Taper, Smooth Casting, and Control at Distance

The Clear Camo Intermediate isn't just about invisibility—its performance matches its subtle appearance. Cortland designed the taper to be both forgiving and responsive, making it an ideal choice for long, accurate casts even in breezy stillwater conditions. The moderate front taper loads quickly for short to mid-distance casting while still maintaining the stability and turnover needed for longer presentations. Whether you're targeting weed-line cruising trout or sight-fishing to carp along a shoreline flat, the Clear Camo's taper gives you the edge.

This line shines in technical situations that require thoughtful line control—think slow retrieves through submerged vegetation or suspending streamers over drop-offs. The supple coating resists memory and lays down quietly, helping maintain stealth from cast to strip. Its consistent performance across varied conditions makes it a favorite among anglers who fish pressured lakes or need a do-it-all line for warm- and cold-water species.

Trusted by Guides, Preferred by Stillwater Specialists

Stillwater experts and professional guides trust the Clear Camo Intermediate for a reason: it gets results when other lines fall short. On gin-clear lakes in the Northeast or the expansive reservoirs of the Pacific Northwest, this line adapts to your approach. Whether you're crawling leeches across a gravel bottom, stripping baitfish patterns for springtime bass, or letting nymphs drift just beneath the surface film, Cortland’s Clear Camo gives you the stealth and precision to trigger more takes.

Pair this line with a long fluorocarbon leader and your favorite intermediate sinking pattern for maximum effect. Its durability and subtle sink rate also make it ideal for saltwater flats where shallow water requires silent approaches and slow presentations.

The Clear Camo Intermediate Fly Line from Cortland Fly Lines combines stealth, control, and time-tested performance for serious anglers who demand subtlety without sacrificing casting power. If you fish technical waters, this is the intermediate line that gives you a true tactical advantage.
