FAQ

Cleaning your fly line is very important especially when fishing saltwater. Simply pull line off your reel into a clean bucket or tub of freshwater. Put roughly 1oz or more of Cortland’s Line Cleaner solution onto a clean rag or towel. Firmly squeeze the towel with Pro Line Cleaner around the line and slowly pull line through the towel. You should be able to see dirt or discolored streaks on the towel when finished.

Still on Top

I have found nothing that can come close to the performance of the 444. It floats high on the surface film, as a floating line should. There is less friction when you pull the line off the water for the next cast. The 444 is a pure joy to fish.

Peach double taper 444

I have used these lines since I was about 12 years old. Still have a half of one of these from 50 years ago…still good. Visited your factory in NY at that age. Have sent a lot of people your way over my guiding life.

Old Reliable

I actually purchased this line for my dad. It’s all he’ll use, ever since it came out in the 70’s. I’ve used it plenty myself on fenwick fiberglass, classic orvis rods, and my more modern Thomas and Thomas rods. The only reason I ever found to buy anything different is specialty lines for something very specific. For general all around trout fishing, from high stick nymphing, swinging wets, or laying down a dry, I believe this line is and always will remain the standard.
