I like the head taper for large flies and it shoots well, but that's where the love affair ends. This line has too much memory. It tangles at your feet or on the floor of the boat and turns into a mess as you shoot the line. It doesn't happen every single time, maybe a dozen times an hour, but I would rather be fishing than untangling line while my fly is sinking or being eaten. If you don't undo it right away, its an even larger mess when you strip in all you have casted. I tried stretching it. I drug the full line without a fly behind the boat to remove any twist, but it tangles beyond belief. I have tried multiple weights and sink rates of this line and all have the same issue. I could possibly write it off as a line management issue, but I know too many others that share my experience. Thought it might be better in colder weather (making the line stiffer), but no, same problem persists. Only company that offers a line with this type head in the 600 grain class. Had high hopes for it, but have removed all other Cortland Pike/Muskie lines from my arsenal. Its a shame, I had high hopes for this line.
This line casts the biggest flies I can tie with relative ease. Slips through guides nicely without carving grooves. The best part is you can get a big bulky deer hair articulated streamer into the zone super fast with this epic sink. This line tangles less thank leading competitors in the market which makes a long day of casting just that much more enjoyable. If you’re chasing Muskies in deeper holes Cortland lines nailed this one!
I use this fly line for freshwater and saltwater applications. The texture and sink rate make it the go to line for my 9wt
It gets down to the strike zone in heavy current . Shoots amazingly! The taper is perfect! I am a guide and extremely ruff on my lines so I definitely recommend them. They hold up great. I completely trust the loop for heavy fish.
