Guide Freshwater Outfits

A few years ago my then 9 year old started fly fishing with me in the PA Wilds. That fall he won a 4wt Guide Series Combo at a IF4 event in Ithaca and absolutely loves that setup. He does great throwing indicator rigs and mending line with that setup and has netted 100s of trout over the last couple of years using it. I have many combos and setups ranging from $80 to $1,000 and he always grabs the Cortland Guide combo when we hit the streams. My 6 year old hit the streams with us a few weeks back and has caught on quicker than his brothers. He'll be getting the 4wt combo for Christmas this year. Great product for the youngsters.

Amazing rod for the price!!

I was very surprised how much I enjoyed the feel of this rod. This is a great starter outfit and I purchased these outfits to use as my guiding set up. The only drawback is the reel. personally, I like the reel to be a little noisier when a fish runs, just seems more exciting that way and this reel is pretty quiet. Since I'm not a huge fan of the reel, even though it serves its purpose, I only give the outfit 4 stars otherwise 5 stars for a beginner or as a travel rod.

This combo is very well balanced and I really like the drag on the reel. Seems very durable as well.

Very pleasantly surprised with the quality of this outfit! I bought the 8' 4wt and absolutely love it! Definitely going to be my go to rod for clients on trips to smaller tributaries.
