Tarpon Taper Breakdown

The only thing better than spotting feeding Tarpon on the deck of a flat’s skiff is having a line that will consistently deliver flies into the feeding zone. We designed our Tarpon Taper to be the most reliable Tarpon line on the market.

Our Tarpon Taper is built with a short 7 ft. body for quickly transferring energy into your cast and delivering flies efficiently. The 31 ft. back taper helps carry line in the air when longer casts are necessary and allows for quick pickups when the fish are on the move. The short 3 ft. front taper effortlessly turns over any tarpon patterns and weighted flies.

This line features a monofilament core and our signature liquid crystal coating for withstanding the hottest temperatures while still remaining slick, supple and fast shooting. The sky blue color gives the angler slightly more traceability than our Tarpon Taper clear without compromising too much stealth.

SPECIES: Tarpon

DUAL WELDED LOOPS

Welded loops make rigging fast, easy and reliable. Cortland loops are strong, secure and durable.

SHOOTING TECHNOLOGY

ST coating delivers a reduced-friction performance with a glass-smooth finish and remains a key element in line slickness over its life span.

POLYETHYLENE

Liquid Crystal Lines are built with a blend of polyethylene compounds (PE) over a monofilament core resulting in the toughest, slickest-shooting, floating fly lines.

WARM TEMPERATURE

Ideal use in 50 - 70 degree (F) temperatures

TROPICAL TEMPERATURE

Ideal use in 70 + degree (F) temperatures

Our Tarpon Taper is built for tropic environments and will perform best in temperatures above 70 degrees (F). Our Liquid Crystal coating is designed to remain hard, slick and supple in the hottest conditions.

The taper design for our Tarpon line was built to be aggressive up front to quickly transfer energy into your cast and easily turn over any weighted or non-weighted tarpon pattern. The long rear taper helps excel in carrying line in the air and throwing tight loops. It also helps with quick pick ups off the water, when recasting to a target on the move. This line is built in true line size so your rod never feels overweighted when casting maximum distance.

We designed our Tarpon Taper in sky blue to blend in with bright tropic environments and provide traceability to the angler.

Cleaning your fly line is very important especially when fishing saltwater. Simply pull line off your reel into a clean bucket or tub of freshwater. Put roughly 1oz or more of Cortland’s Line Cleaner solution onto a clean rag or towel. Firmly squeeze the towel with Pro Line Cleaner around the line and slowly pull line through the towel. You should be able to see dirt or discolored streaks on the towel when finished.

13 wt, wf Tarpon Taper

I overweighted my Orvis HELIOS 3, 12 wt tarpon rod with this Cortland WF 13 wt line. I casts like a howitzer, even into the wind fishing for tarpon off of Key Largo, FL.

This line is second to none.

Great 10 wt Tarpon Taper Line

It has been windy! Gusting sometimes to 40 mph. Busty large flies through the wind was no problem for right loop casts. Just was wonderful to fish with.

Awesome line

"This line is really solid. It turns the fly over in the wind and I can load it quickly without fuss. It casts well, doesn't tangle easily, and flies through my guides with ease. I've caught redfish in shallow water with it; so I can also target reds without spooking them. I've also used it on some freash water bass on windy days here in Arkansas. It's a shame that I don't go to FL more often to throw this line. "

Stay fishy all

Great Line!

I have been using Cortland line now for several years and I am always happy with its performance. The Tarpon Taper throws great and holds up to lots of abuse. Very happy

Pretty good.

Love the taper and lack of visibility. I lost a couple of fish due to knots that formed as tarpon reacted to being hooked. Also, the line seems to get a little sticky without cleaning throughout the day.
