Tropic Redfish Breakdown

Targeting Redfish on the fly requires capitalizing on quick opportunities and feeding windows.

We designed our Tropic Plus Redfish line with a short compact head featuring a 21 ft. body that is powerful and easy loading. A shorter 4 ft. front taper easily turns over large Redfish patterns as well as weighted patterns. The 5 ft. back taper helps load the line quickly with minimal false casting when fish are close and casts need to be as efficient as possible.

Built on a monofilament core, this line features our signature tropic plus coating for withstanding the hottest temperatures while still remaining slick, supple and fast shooting. Finished in Seafoam Green and tan, this line is stealthy yet traceable in tropic environments.

The Tropic Plus Redfish is perfect for working shorelines and casting under mangroves.

FAQ

Our Tropic Plus Redfish Line is built for tropic environments and will perform best in temperatures above 70 degrees (F). Our Tropic PVC coating is designed to remain hard, slick and supple in the hottest conditions.

The taper design for our Redfish line was built to be aggressive up front for turning over larger patterns, weighted flies and big topwater patterns. The short front taper paired with the short body effortlessly turns over these variety of patterns with minimal false casts. The short rear taper helps excel in quick shooting and minimal false casts, hitting your target in a timely fashion. This line is built a half line size heavy to load faster action rods and give you maximum loading power in short ranges.

The seafoam and tan finish distinguishes taper change and easily identifies the prime loading point for casting. This color combination also provides stealth and traceability whether fishing on Tropic Flats or off-colored mangroves.

Cleaning your fly line is very important especially when fishing saltwater. Simply pull line off your reel into a clean bucket or tub of freshwater. Put roughly 1oz or more of Cortland’s Line Cleaner solution onto a clean rag or towel. Firmly squeeze the towel with Pro Line Cleaner around the line and slowly pull line through the towel. You should be able to see dirt or discolored streaks on the towel when finished.

Incredible line. I fish from a canoe on flats in FL. It really turns over meatier flies and gets me some real distance from a sitting or standing position. It’s also my first Cortland line. Will come back for more.

Cortland Lines are consistent performers

there are several quality makers of fly lines. some lines match up better or worse than others with specific rods or casting styles, but I have always found Cortland lines to be reliable and consistent performers. I still use a 20 year old Cortland 555 Tropic floating 9 weight. there is no need to experiment with other brands that may or may not cast as well and last as long.

Tropic Redfish

I absolutely love this line. It cast like an absolute dream, rod loads quick and can get ample line out in a few false casts. The line lands softly on the water. I’ll be putting this line on all my reels. I used this line for three days in Biscayne catching Bonefish and it outperformed all expectations.

Tropical Redfish floating fly line is also perfect for Snook and baby Tarpon.

Florida legend Captain Frank Catino told me the the Tropical Redfish line was also his favorite for Snook and Baby Tarpon. It is smooth a butter and a pleasure to cast. I am using those lines in size 6, 7 and 8 now for Redfish, Seatrout, Baby Tarpon and Snook in the mangroves backwater lagoons and creeks in East Coast Central Florida.
